A publishers note reads: "This - the only novel by Clyde Fitch - was first
published in 'Lippincott's Monthly Magazine' for February, 1891. Apart
from the autobiographical interest in the story, it is significant to
find thus early in his career that the psychology of Mr. Fitch is
essentially that of the playwright - a psychology which he was later
to use with such effect in his dramas."
