The book begins with "A Short Outline of The Principle of Evolution" continues with "Herbert Spencer and his Mistaken Disciples," "The Essence of Phenomenism," and concludes with "A Natural Code of Ethics." Michael Fitch rose through the ranks during the Civil War from 1st Sgt. to Lt. Col. in the Wisconsin Infantry. Two of his other books deal with that war: "Echoes of the Civil War" and "The Chattanooga Campaign."
